Meditation

Meditation is "The action or practice of meditating.  Synonyms: contemplation, thought, thinking, musing, pondering, consideration, reflection, deliberation, rumination...concentration; A written or spoken discourse expressing considered thoughts on a subject." Dictionary

Meditating, resting the mind and finding your center of consciousness includes:

 The yogis speak of five sheaths or koshas:

  • Annamaya kosha = Physical body; literally the food sheath
  • Pranamaya kosha = Energy sheath, made up of prana
  • Manomaya kosha = Sheath or level of mind, as sensory-motor mind
  • Vijnanamaya kosha = Level of intellect, knowing, or mind in its witness form
  • Anandamaya kosha = Sheath of bliss or ananda, where mind and thoughts are still.

 The ancients used the metaphor of a painting on a canvas, as a map to describe how we may return to the direct experience of our True Self.  Our True Self is just behind the canvas, on which we paint countless false identities.  These false identities are what we may want people to think about us, as oppsed to who we really are.

Whether we accept that we are spirits/souls having a human experience, coming to earth to learn and expand our selves; and/or we accept that we're simply living on the emotional planet, with egos that get us all twisted up, it is proven that meditation calms the brain, nervous system, emotions, and promotes an inner peace.  People of all walks of life, from around the world meditate in a variety of forms.  It is a conscious process of quieting that head chatter that most people live inside of, looking for peace, calm and quiet inside our head.
